The spring meeting on April 6 at the Indianapolis Liederkranz will be a series of presentations about “Key Essentials of German Genealogy–from Basics to Success.” The overall purpose is to provide attendees with some basic knowledge that enables them to take the next step in their German genealogy research–whether they are tryinig to find the village of origin, locate records of an ancestor in a known village of origin, or looking for records beyond those already obtained.

There will be four one-hour long presentations which will focus on:

  • determining and locating the home village prior to emigration
  • history and geography of Germanic-speaking areas that can provide a background for understanding your ancestors and also indicate where records may be found
  • researching records in the homeland
  • useful books, resources, and websites
  • What if I don’t speak German?
  • Where do I look for additional records?
  • Where can I learn more?

All presentations will be given by Kent Robinson, former Indiana Chapter President and former National President.
